Texas Pedestrian Accidents
Traffic accidents involving pedestrians are a very common occurrence in Texas. In 2019, there were approximately 5,954 pedestrian crashes in the Lone Star state. These crashes resulted in 668 fatalities and over 1,000 injuries. From the year 2015 to 2019, deaths resulting from fatal pedestrian crashes increased about 17% in Texas.
Some of the main reasons Texas pedestrian crashes take place include failing to yield the right of way, driver distraction, and speeding. Driver distraction currently accounts for nearly 20% of all Texas traffic accidents. Pedestrians can stay safer by utilizing sidewalks when they’re able to and wearing bright/reflective clothing when it’s dark outside to increase visibility and decrease the risk of collision.
Sadly, a large percentage of the individuals hurt in Texas pedestrian collisions end up permanently disabled with their quality of life drastically reduced.
